The Monroe Animal League assists companion animals in need within Monroe County. MAL promotes spay/neuter and humane education as a way to control pet overpopulation, and thus relieves cruelty and suffering among animals. We believe this to be the best way to achieve a future with no more homeless animals. The League financially assists Monroe County pet owners who cannot afford to have their pets altered and provides needed funds for the animal to be seen by a veterinarian should an emergency arise and funds are unavailable. These services are possible through the cooperation of many Monroe County veterinarians. MAL sponsors humane education through The Humane Society of the United States’ Adopt-a-Classroom program, teaching thousands of elementary students (K-6) respect of self, others, animals, and the environment. Additionally, the League loans humane traps/cages, gives out free of charge Pet Fire Alert decals for your home and Heat Warning Cards to distribute when necessary, conducts Rabies Clinics, provides a local Food Pantry with pet food for distribution, keeps members abreast of legislation affecting animal welfare, attends many local events to make the public aware of our services ….the League helps wherever possible. To contact the Monroe Animal League, either call or email: monroeanimalleague@gmail.com. Memorial Scholarship: MAL has established a $500 Scholarship open to applicants residing in Monroe County attending any Monroe County high school or valid high school program: home school and cyber school students are welcome to apply.
